Have your say New Zealand and help stop the scammers
Every day, New Zealanders are unknowingly spending money with overseas-owned companies that present themselves as local Kiwi businesses.
These sites often use “.co.nz” domains, Kiwi branding and local-sounding names, but behind the scenes, profits are flowing offshore.
Billions of dollars every year are leaving New Zealand. Money that could otherwise support local jobs, families and communities.
We would love to hear your thoughts re:
Should only Kiwi-owned businesses be able to use .co.nz websites?

Don’t let your hard-earn dollars unknowing go to foreign-owned companies posing as Kiwi businesses.
Many of us are not aware that TradeMe, Mighty Ape, Dick Smith and many more using .co.nz websites are actually foreign-owned.
In the case of TradeMe, the once fully Kiwi-owned company is now owned by Private Equity based in Guernsey. If you do a quick ChatGPT query as to why a company would be from Guernsey, it gives an enlightening answer and it certainly doesn’t mention that it is for the good of New Zealand!
As consumers, we believe New Zealanders deserve greater transparency so they can make informed decisions about where their hard-earned dollars go.
Supporting genuinely Kiwi-owned businesses helps keep money circulating in our local economy, strengthens communities and creates opportunities for future generations.
