“I am a mere extension of my camera as it leads me to capture those fleeting moments that with a wink of an eye, have passed by forever”.
After a lifetime of flitting from job to job, from training sport horses, tour directing on tourist coaches around NZ and cooking for Ringers in the Outback of Oz, plus a few stints of nannying & grooming horses in the USA just to name a few, ALWAYS with camera at hand, I made the call at 51 years old, to take the plunge to follow my passion and became a full-time photographer. It was a huge risk and without any formal training, I trusted my instincts and everything I had taught myself about photography over the past 20 years and I haven’t looked back since.
My photography has taken me twice to Colorado, USA, to photograph their National Sheepdog Trials, from the top to bottom of NZ, and the vast Outback of Australia.
Raised on a farm in Taranaki and with a passion for rural life, I found myself creating a niche with traveling to farming families throughout the country, at times in remote places, for their family photos. I felt portrait family photos in a studio were outside many farming families comfort zone and I wanted to create memories for them within their own environment, where they were relaxed and comfortable, that they would cherish forever, combining their love of animals, which often include horses, cattle/sheep, motorbikes and working dogs, with their rural backdrop to create beautiful family photos with ‘meaning’ and ‘memories’.
From this was born The Stockman Gallery.
The Stockman Gallery is a collection of images of the NZ Stockman/women, predominantly in the High Country, often portraying scenes of the stockman/woman with their stock horse, dogs, cattle & sheep.
Via my online gallery, The Stockman Gallery, customers can purchase prints, framed prints and canvases.
With the success of The Stockman Gallery, I now offer a Stockman Style Photoshoot, where my clients can get their own beautiful images, and what they LOVE is, the images are of THEM.
I pride myself in that my photoshoots are relaxed, fun and 'easy' for my clients. Often I hear 'wow that time went fast' or 'that was more enjoyable than I thought it would be'.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about me. I look forward to being your photographer, for whatever the occassion may be.
